“We all hate sitting in traffic and that‘s why I’m committed to building new roads where we need them,” Anna says.

“New roads like the massive duplication of the Gateway Bridge in Brisbane which I inspected today which will make a real difference to commuters.”

“It is an awesome worksite with views up and down the Brisbane River. The new bridge is taking shape and it was great to see the guys working hard. Hats off to them.

“They have reached a big milestone, with construction of the main southern pier complete, and the bridge on track to open as planned in the second half of next year.

“This project will employ 6,000 workers in its lifetime. These projects are the projects that I’m committed to building for Queensland.”

With an extra 1,800 people arriving in Queensland every week, Anna is determined to tackle congestion on all fronts. In Brisbane today, she announced a $12.3 million congestion-busting incident response plan for SEQ roads.

The package includes “monster trucks” which are capable of lifting semi trailers from roadways and special 360 degree image cameras which speed up the time taken to record the scene of an accident.

“My Government has a proven track record in delivering major road projects on time and on budget,” Anna says. “But our roads are only as good as the systems that manage them and our research has shown that as much as 25 per cent of congestion in SEQ is due to vehicle crashes or breakdowns.”
