Liz Plummer is one of Anna’s heroes.
Her courageous cancer battle has inspired many and, in Cairns today, Anna confirmed that the new Cairns oncology unit will named in her honor.
“Liz’s long battle with breast cancer and her crusading for better services in the Far North has been heard, and we have responded,” Anna said.
The new radiation oncology unit is included in the $456 million redevelopment of Cairns Base Hospital.
In late January, Anna announced that the Radiation Oncology service at Cairns Base Hospital will now be in place by the end of 2010 - two years earlier than planned.
“Liz is an inspiring person and it is community-minded people like her who put aside the pain of their own fight to help others,” Anna said. “Liz is one of my heroes.”
